Organic Chamomile Melt and Pour Soap Kit

These instructions are for our Organic Melt and Pour Soap Kit and it is suitable for the Eco-Warrior in your life - Organic and Natural - it ticks the boxes.

You can purchase the kit here

  • 1 x 1kg Organic Melt & Pour Soap Base
  • 2 x Single Cavity HD Moulds (as selected)
  • 1 x 5ml Roman Chamomile Essential Oil (Organic 3% in Jojoba) with dripolator
  • 1 x 10ml Lavender Essential Oil (non-organic) with dripolator
  • 1 x 10ml Organic Chamomile Extract
  • 1 x Sachet Shredded Loofah
  • 1 x Sachet Calendula Petals

Equipment Needed:
Stirring spoons or spatulas
Microwave safe jug - needs to hold 500ml or more
A Thermometer is useful, but not essential

In order to know how much soap to melt for each per pour the following will help:

  • HD Plain Oval - holds 80g
  • HD Plain Octagonal - holds 90g
  • HD Victorian Blossom Rectangle - holds 100g
  • HD Hummingbird – holds 150g
  • Flex Mould – Bees Rectangle - holds 115g
  • Flex Mould – Sunflower Rectangle - holds 100g
  • Flex Mould – 100% Handmade Square - holds 40g
  • Flex Mould – 100% Handmade Round - holds 40g
  • Flex Mould – Butterfly Single - holds 75g
  • Flex Mould – Daisy Single - holds 100 - 140g

Method (based on filling 2 x 90g mould cavities per pour):

  • Set out the ingredients, moulds and equipment
  • Dice soap base into small ice cube sized chunks to suit one pour in your chosen moulds and place the cubes in the microwave jug.  This will be approximately 190g – you can re-melt any leftovers with the next batch
  • Place in the microwave to melt on medium or medium low. This may take a couple of minutes, so do keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't overheat. Try heating in bursts of 30 seconds, then stir, check and redo
  • Remove the liquid Melt & Pour Soap from the microwave and stir to remove any lumps
  • Add approximately 1/3 of the Organic Chamomile Extract and stir through well to combine
  • Now add 2 g/ml (approximately 60 drops) of Essential Oil and stir well to combine.  We suggest you use up to 30 drops per soap, so for 2 soaps you can use up to 60 drops. You can of course use less if that is your preference
  • Carefully pour into the mould cavities. If you have used an additive, it's a good idea to half fill each cavity, then go back and top up
  • Allow several hours to set up completely before attempting to unmould.  If you try to hurry unmoulding by using the fridge or freezer, it will lead to sweating.  At room temperature, it may take a couple of hours, depending on how hot you heated the soap and how hot the ambient temperature is
  • When completely cold and set, use a blunt knife or spatula to release the air lock around the edges of the mould, and then invert the mould and use your thumbs to push down on the centre the mould and the soap will pop out on the bench
  • Repeat for the rest of the soap base selecting your chosen additives
  • If you would like to display your soaps, wrap or store in an airtight container

  • The optimum pouring temperature is 60 - 65°C.  If you have no thermometer the consistency is like slightly warm liquid honey
  • If you would like to add the Calendula Petals, add approximately half to one teaspoon per the soap after adding the Essential Oil and Extract
  • If adding the Loofah Shreds, tease apart the plant fibres and stir through the soap after adding the Essential Oil – I like approximately 1 teaspoon per soap
