This pictorial tute shows making one LARGE batch, you can split the
contents into two portions and make two different scents if that is what you purchased.
(Some customers purchase 2 x the same scent, so don't need to separate the batch).

Nurture your skin and soul with our soothing Buttermilk Bath Powder.  Buttermilk contains lactic acid, which helps gently exfoliate, and though this is not as high a level as that added to lotions and creams, there is still an effect in a Buttermilk Bath Soak.

The secret to making successful dry Bath Soaks and Milks is Natrasorb Bath. Using this natural starch means you don’t *wet* the milk powder, thereby leading it to go sour. What Natrasorb does is allow you to mix the Fragrance or Essential Oils with it to make a “dry” fragrance. The other big bonus is that Natrasorb Bath is a water softener and makes the bath water feel silky and smooth!

Equipment you’ll need from the Kitchen:

  • Melamine, silicone or stainless steel spoon or spatula for mixing and filling the jars
  • 1 x large jug
  • 1 x large bowl
  • 1 x sieve

How much Fragrance to use: For each batch (which weighs just over 450g you can use up to 9g/ml (this is 2%). This is nearly all of the fragrance oil in the bottle. If using Essential Oils we recommend dropping this down to 5g/ml – half of the bottle. If you wish to pour out the oil, rather than drip, you can carefully ease out the dripolator insert with a bread and butter knife.

Instructions for making the Buttermilk Bath Soak

You are making two batches - one batch for each fragrance.

Ingredients for half a batch:

  • 250g Buttermilk Powder
  • 125g Bicarbonate of Soda
  •   50g Natrasorb Bath
  • Up to 10g/ml Artisan Fragrance or  Essential Oil
  • 3 x 300ml or 350ml Bail Jars

Note:  Remember these graphics show one large batch - simply divide the the dry ingredients in half and follow the instructions for 2 x half batches.

Empty half the contents of the Natrasorb Bath into the smaller jug or bowl.
Into the large bowl, add half the milk powder and sieve in half of the Bicarbonate of Soda (to remove any lumps).  Mix well until combined.

Now pour some of the first fragrance (You may want to use less than the 10ml supplied if you prefer a lighter fragrance) into the Natrasorb together and mix with a spoon or spatula until the mixture resembles soft breadcrumbs with no large lumps remaining.

Combine the fragrance powder with the milk powder mixture mixing well to combine.

Note: We filled the round bail jar with 170g of mixture - depending on which style of jar you purchased and
how much you tap it down will vary the quantity in the jars will vary.

To use:  Add approximately 2 - 4 tablespoons per bathtub, allow to disperse under the running tap.

Storage:

Moisture is milk powder's enemy so do keep the jars sealed between use in a cool dry place.
