Do you have one or more of these ingredients already? No Problem! Choose only what you need and the total price will adjust accordingly.

This soap loaf has an ITP or "in the pot swirl" with the three colours - purple, ultramarine blue and 'white', making it ideal for the experienced beginner soap maker.  I poured some extra single bar moulds from the batch too. If you prefer to use a more vibrant blue than Ultramarine Blue, you can substitute Persian Blue Neon so it is more like the graphic.

Ingredients:

Equipment:

All your regular Cold Process Soap making equipment including Safety Gear including Goggles and Gloves
3 large jugs or pails
Colour mixing cups
Stick blender
Spatulas
Mini mixer - if you have one, otherwise use a teaspoon or popstick

Method:

Colour Prep:

  • Prepare the powdered colour/s in two small cups - 1 teaspoon of each pigment with 2 teaspoons of liquid oil from the allowance - ensure there are no lumps or undispersed pigment particles.  We recommend using a strong concentration of UM Blue - approximately 1 rounded teaspoon.
  • Also prepare the White Satin Mica, mixed ¾ teaspoon with 2 teaspoons of oil or distilled water.

If you are a beginner, we recommend you make a few batches before attempting this soap due to the complexity of steps.   For how to make soap from Scratch, please see our Cold Process Soapmaking Instructions.  You can also watch Soap Queen's You Tube Series on Cold Process Soapmaking.

It can be a little overwhelming trying so many new things when just starting out.  If you are more experienced, you can follow the instructions below.

  • Set out your equipment and weigh the oils and lye water as usual.
  • Bring soap to a thin trace and pour off approximately 150g (⅔ of a cup) into a cup or small jug and add the Ultramarine Blue colour and mix well. Use a mini mixer if required to ensure good colour depth and mixing.
  • Now pour approximately 250g of thinly traced soap and mix in the Royal purple liquid dispersion  - again you can use a mini mixer if required.
  • Add the hydrated White Pearl Mica to the rest of the soap in the main pot, give it a blast with the stick blender to mix it through - don't increase your trace.

  • It's now time for the fragrance so you won't want to waste time in pouring.  Pour in the Moon Child fragrance into the main pot and hand stir to combine well.
  • Next for the Ultramarine Blue - pour it in four places of your main soap pot - at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. DO NOT MIX!
  • Now add the Royal purple coloured soap in equal amounts in between the blue soap spots - do not mix this either.

  • If you want distinct colour swirls DO NOT MIX, if you prefer more muted blending, hand stir just a tad.
  • Now pour into the mould from approximately 20cm above the mould rim, moving down the length of the mould and the soap will "swirl itself" in the mould as you pour.
  • Once poured, allow it to firm up a little then pull the soap into a nice texture on top using a chopstick or knife.

  • Then spritz with a little isopropyl alcohol to discourage ash and put to bed with insulation.
  • As you have used a silicone mould which does not allow fast evaporation you may need to leave this soap for several days before unmoulding.
  • Once unmoulded I brushed a little White Pearl Mica powder across the top and then gave a quick spray with hair spray to keep it there!
  • I overfilled my mould a little so I would recommend pouring one or two individual soaps into single cavity moulds to avoid this!

Note:  If using the trolley option, you still need to purchase Olive Oil, Distilled Water and Sodium Hydroxide from the supermarket.
