Short on time? This recipe is a quick and easy, yet effective solution to last minute gifts! Drizzle some festive glitz of fine Gold and Silver EcoGlitter across the top of the happy green soaps.
This project is great for beginners, or if you need a quick Festive Fix at the last minute!
To make 12 soaps in the rectangle mould, you'll need:
- 2kg Clear Melt & Pour Soap Base cut into cubes
- 20ml Coconut and Lime Fragrance
- 1.5 Cactus Green Neon Colour Blocks and a few drops of Deep Seagreen Liquid Pigment Dispersion to bring down the tone of the neon
- Silver and Gold fine Eco Glitter for the drizzle
- Isopropyl Alcohol and Spritzer Bottle Set
- Silicone 12 Bar Rectangle Mould
You could also use a Lime, Distilled Essential Oil, or any of our fresh and summery fragrances - just make sure it doesn't contain any vanillin (you don't want any vanilla in this recipe)!
Equipment:
Stirring spoon or spatulas
2 Disposable Pipettes and small cups for the drizzle
A large microwave safe jug, or if you only have a 1 litre one, make two smaller batches, if you make a lot of 1 or more kilo batches of Melt & Pour Soap a Crock Pot with a lid is really useful to have all the soap melted and ready to go.
Scales to ensure you melt enough soap! A Thermometer is useful, but not essential
Method:
- Set out the ingredients, equipment and mould, ready to go
- Dice approximately 1600g of soap base into small ice cube sized chunks, place in the microwave jug
- As it is a fairly large quantity of soap, cover the jug during melting to avoid water evaporation (You can also use a crock pot on low if you want to get on with other things and let the soap melt slowly over a few hours)
- Melt on low or medium-low in the microwave, checking the soap occasionally and stirring to help the chunks melt evenly. This will take about 5 - 10 minutes, so do keep an eye on it so it doesn't overheat or the soap will sweat later on
- While the soap is melting, cut one of the Cactus Green Colour Blocks in to small shavings. Leave the second colour block whole for now.
- Remove from heat when nearly all the pieces have melted and the temperature will be around 50 - 55°C
- Once removed from the microwave (or crock pot), add colour and fragrance. Stir in the shavings of Cactus Green Neon Colour Block. The colour needs to be quite deep, so shave and add more slivers from the second colour block until an opaque depth of green is reached. Then add about 5 to 10 drops of Deep Seagreen Liquid Dispersion to soften the tone of the mixture.
- Add 5ml of Fragrance or Essential Oil per 500g of soap (so if you have melted 1600g, add 16ml, if you like a stronger scent use 20ml) and stir well to combine
- Pour into the mould
- Spritz with alcohol to remove any residual bubbles
- Allow to set up completely, which will take a few hours
- Unmould the soaps and prepare the bling!
- In a small cup, place one cube (approximately 10g) of clear soap and give it a SHORT time in the microwave - take care it boils very quickly. Try 10 - 30 seconds on medium-low!
- Snip the tip off a pipette
- Add ¼ of teaspoon of Silver Glitter to the soap and stir
- Spritz the top of the soaps with alcohol to ensure the drizzled soap sticks
- Squeeze up a good amount of liquid glitter soap into the pipette, and working smoothly and quickly, drizzle over the tops of the soap. Allow the soap flow to go over the edges and onto the paper underneath as you will achieve a nicer finish if you can work freely with a flowing motion
- Now repeat for the Gold Glitter
- You are done! Wrap, label and gift!
