Our pure, high quality Kokum Butter is extracted from the fruit kernels of the Kokum Tree (a relation of the wild mangosteen tree) which thrives in tropical zones, with it being native to India.
Kokum Butter is the hardest of the natural butters and has a dry and crumbly looking texture. It offers emollience, softening and soothing benefits to the skin. Kokum contains a high level of Vitamin E and antioxidants and is comprised of 80% stearic-oleic-stearic (SOS) triglycerides which are thought to help prevent drying skin.
Though Kokum can be used directly on the skin, it’s best to infuse with liquid or softer ingredients due to its high melting point. The high melting point also makes it a useful inclusion to raise the melting point of balms and lip products that contain softer ingredients.
If you like formulating from scratch, we recommend trialling a ratio of 1:1:1 wax, kokum butter and oils – adjust in small increments for your own requirements. Kokum has an affinity with Cera Bellina, Candelilla and Beeswax.
If you wish to colour products with a high percentage of Kokum Butter, we recommend the addition of micas as the best colouring option.

Lotions, Creams & Hair Conditioner: 1 - 3%, Body Butters: 3 - 10%, Solid Soap: 2 - 5%, Balms and Lotion Bars: 5 - 20%, Cold Process Soap: 3 - 5%
