This is a featured formulation in our Formulating with Cosmetic Clay Book. If you want a gentle treatment scrub use caster or regular sugar; if you want a more robust scrub, the salt is better at exfoliating. Use as much as you like to, but I like to use a teaspoon at a time, and then apply a little more as needed.
Ingredients:
- 250g Foamy Bath Butter
- 30g/ml Avocado Oil or your favourite Fixed Oil
- 15g Oliv-Esters
- 15g Sodium Lactate Plus
- 10g Caramel Mediterranean Clay
- 5g Red Mediterranean Clay
- 2g/ml Neroli & Shea Blossom Fragrance or Essential Oils of choice
- 3.6g (3 droppers) Preservative - EPE or 1.8g (1½ droppers) Liquid Germall Plus Preservative
- 4 x Economy Tubs
- 300 - 500g Sugar, Fine Sea Salt or Fine Himalayan Salt
Equipment:
Electric mixer (hand held is fine, or stand mixer with balloon type whisk, NOT a stick blender)
Large bowl for whipping
Spatula, spoon
Scales, digital
Pipette
Mixing Tips:
If using a small hand held mixer, you can use 1 or 2 of the beaters in the machine; this will depend on the diameter of the bowl or jug.
If it is very cold in your work area, warm the Foamy Bath Butter on medium for 30 seconds in the microwave – but do not melt it – just soften it slightly.
If making the soap in a warm environment there is no need to warm the base, just push the beaters into the soft soap and turn the mixer on low, slowly increasing the speed. It will begin to separate and then come together nicely and will start to look like creamed butter.
Method:
Dice the Foamy Bath Butter and place in the mixing bowl – make sure there is plenty of mixing space in the bowl
Squish the Foamy Bath Butter down with the beaters and begin beating the unmelted base on low.
It will be quite stiff to begin with.
Once the Foamy Bath Butter has softened and is smooth again, add the liquid ingredients.
Whip again for 30 seconds or so, then add the clay – add half, mix it in, and then decide if you would like to use it all.
Now stir or mix through the sugar or salt – you can add as much or as little as you like,
a stiff mixture holds its shape for longer.
Now it’s ready for packing and using!
Spoon into the tubs, label and seal.
To use: Apply this product as you would any scrub, sit comfortably, and massage the scrub into each foot using circular motions. Pay particular attention to any dry skin or rough spots. Leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off in the shower.
If using "Add to Cart", Preservative EPE and both clays are included, but you can use all of one colour to make it a more economical purchase! There is no salt included in the shopping cart.
