I love making scrubs with Foamy Bath Butter, it's sometimes great to have a base to begin your product with. We have added apricot themed goodies, and Oat Extract in this delish scrub.
There is no need to melt the Foamy Bath Butter or the Organic Shea Butter in this recipe unless you are making the scrub in very cold weather. This makes this scrub really fast to make as the ingredients are all used at room temperature before you begin. If it is really cold in your soap room or kitchen, roughly chop them and warm in microwave until they are a little softer, like margarine, but do not melt!
I made a large batch of scrub (using 1kg of Foamy Bath Butter), and then divided into two portions before adding fragrance and colour. If you want to do this, the trolley items include the sizes to make this. You can of course halve this and make a 500g batch of Foamy Bath Butter Scrub by editing the trolley products to smaller sizes. (The 500g half recipe is below this tutorial).
The 1kg batch makes around 1600g of scrub or 10 x 200ml size tubs, for half batch recipe scroll down.
Ingredients:
1kg Foamy Bath Butter
100g Organic Shea Butter
40g Apricot Kernel Oil
70 - 80g Apricot Scrub Granules
40g Oat Extract
15 - 30 drops Liquid Lake Citrus Orange Colourant
10 - 20g/ml Apricot Freesia Fragrance
800 - 900g White Sugar - Can be increased or decreased to suit your preference; for extra scrub use regular sugar, for a more gentle scrub use caster sugar
20g/ml Preservative - EPE - Recommended but optional
10 x 200ml Double Wall Jars
Equipment:
Stand mixer or hand held beater with balloon whisk type beaters
Large mixing bowl or jug
Spatula
Pipettes
Method:
Place the Foamy Bath Butter and Organic Shea Butter into the bowl and press the beaters into them. If they squash easily, start to break up the block and beat until fairly smooth and light
If they are too stiff and too firm to beat remove the beaters and heat in the microwave for 1 minute or so to slightly soften it – DO NOT MELT!
Once it is whipped and fluffy add the Apricot Kernel Oil, Fragrance and Oat Extract and then beat again to combine well
The mixture will be much lighter and softer after it has been beaten
Add he Apricot Freesia Fragrance and stir well to combine.
If you are colouring the batch add 10 drops of colour and beat through, repeat adding colour until
you have a shade that is a little bit darker than you want
Now add the Apricot Scrub Granules and stir through with a spatula,
Add the sugar – start with half and then add more sugar until you are happy with the texture and feel of the mixture, and add more colour if desired.
If the mixture is too stiff to beat, switch to a spatula or spoon to mix the sugar in evenly.
Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl, as you would with a cake mix.
Spoon into the double wall jars and place in a safe, dry place overnight and lid them the next day.
To use: Apply to wet skin and massage using circular movements and rinse away. This scrub is not suitable for the face
