Emulsified Sugar Scrubs

These are our Emulsified Sugar Scrub Recipes!  They leave your skin feeling soft, pampered and smooth, with no greasy after feel. Economical and easy to make, these formulations include our Aussie Spa Minerals.  These differ to regular sugar/salt scrubs in that they have Emulsifying Waxes in the Oil Phase ingredients, and that means the oils are combined into a more solid form together with the exfoliating ingredients.

It is really important to break up the scrub into granules as it cools down and sets, so that the end texture resembles bread crumbs. By doing this, the scrub is ready to hydrate just prior to use. Presented in a Bail Jar, 240ml Double Wall Jar or Wide Necked Tub with Spa Spatula, Cosmetic Spatula or Wooden Scoop they look wonderful.

Good Morning!

This scrub is perfect to wake up to - fresh and zingy!  This formulation uses a blend of Artisan Fragrance and Essential Oils, but if you prefer to use one or the other, Grapefruit Essential Oil and Lime Essential Oil (a fresh and zingy combination), work wonderfully well to wake both body and mind. If you wish to use a Fragrance Oil only Energy Fragrance is fantastic!

Phase A

464g Raw Sugar
80g Pink Clay  *Can substitute Clay/Spa Minerals of choice

Phase B

28g Emulsifying Wax NF
20g Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol
80g Macadamia Oil
40g Fractionated Coconut Oil
68g Organic Shea Butter

Phase C

7g Phenoserve or Preservative EPE
Up to 13g of a Blend of Valencia Orange Essential Oil and Cinnamon Essential Oil (just a touch) and Vanilla Select Fragrance

Method

  • Combine Phase B ingredients in a Pyrex Jug and melt in the Microwave (or a Bain Marie or double boiler) and gently heat until all ingredients are liquid
  • Mix Phase A ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir to combine
  • Pour the hot, liquified Phase B ingredients into the mixing bowl and stir through well
  • Now add the Essential Oils and Fragrant Oils, and Preservative and stir to combine well
  • During the cool down period, stir periodically to make sure the mixture stays like breadcrumbs and doesn't lump
  • Now pot up!

To use:  Scoop a teaspoon or two to the palm of your hand, add a little water, and apply to the body using small circular movements. Rinse off with warm water. You probably won't even need a moisturiser!

Conditioning Indulgence Sugar Scrub

This scrub is really nice to use for a night of pampering!  This formulation uses the delish Wildflower Honey Fragrance.  The sugar exfoliates, and the spa minerals detox and revitalise your skin, leaving you feeling pampered and wonderful!

*Note:  During transition of this formula from soap room to website, the percentages were entered incorrectly, however there is no change in the ingredient quantities, these are, and were always correct. Thank you to a customer who found this and let us know :)

To Customise to Salt Scrubs

Sugar can be substituted with salt in scrub recipes, as can some other exfoliants.
You may need to adjust the salt down a little in these recipes, and also if using our Coarse Sea Salt grind it a little finer in a coffee grinder or food processor.

Note: Its a good idea to avoid using scrubs within a few days of an important event ie. your wedding, Year 12 Ball etc, because your skin can develop temporary blotches when it is scrubbed.  Ensure you exfoliate about one week prior to the event just to be sure.
